Terrace Park residents are invited to join the Terrace Park Historical Society (TPHS) on Sunday, November 8, 2026, from 3–5 p.m. to celebrate the opening of Terrace Park’s 1976 time capsule.
The time capsule was buried in November 1976 as part of the United States’ Bicentennial celebration, marking the 200th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Fifty years later, in November 2026, it will be opened as part of the 250th anniversary celebrations.
The 1976 time capsule will be unearthed and on display at Miami Grove Nature Preserve. At the same event, a new time capsule will be buried, giving today’s residents an opportunity to leave a snapshot of Terrace Park for future generations. No seating will be provided, so bring a chair if you’d like to sit.
Residents are encouraged to suggest items for the 2026 time capsule by emailing the Historical Society at tphistoricalsociety@gmail.com. If you have a physical object you would like to have considered, please contact TPHS for instructions on how to drop it off. Suggestions and items must be delivered by October 20, 2026.
